We noticed that people were struggling...
As experienced math educators, we noticed that many people are struggling to understand how math is being taught in K - 5 classrooms today. We knew we could help!
We have extensive classroom experience, but our real strengths lie in our understanding of Common Core Math Standards (CCMS) and Singapore Math. We have shared this expertise in many schools across the country and as curriculum writers for both Dimensions Math and Eureka Math.

Time and again, we were asked the same questions and we were explaining the same concepts. If I had a dime for every time I heard We Didn't Learn Math This Way, this book could be free! To reach more people, we convinced Singapore Math, Inc. to take a chance on a publishing this reference book.

We had to learn new things too!
We, Peggy and Tricia, did not learn math the way shown in this book! We, too had to learn new strategies. Early on, we both questioned why. Just like other people, we thought that some strategies seemed overly complex with too many steps. However, we were in the position to study the standards and Singapore Math philosophies and strategies across the grade levels.

This allowed us to understand why math classrooms were making a change. Without exception, every teacher and parent we have worked with have embraced the CCMS and Singapore philosophies once they understood the impact on learning and understanding. Another comment from people we work with might be the title of our next book: I Wish I Learned Math This Way.
We wrote the book on math today... just for you.
